After enjoying a leisurely Christmas morning in Bakersfield, we packed the Avalanche fit to burst and headed up the mountain to Mariposa. Little did we know we would be regretting our decision to pass on the four-wheel-drive option....
Welcome!

Sandy and Smokey
Mostly, Smokey and Sandy chase each other around the yard and nip each other on the butt. But when it is cold, Smokey tries to cuddle up to Sandy whenever possible. Sandy, on the other hand, finds swimming in the mud swamp in our flower bed a desirable activity, rain or shine, 100 degrees or 35 degrees...

Generation Dress
This year my mom brought out the little red and white dress that she wore, I wore, and now Julia has worn - 3 generations. Julia had so much fun wearing it that she cried when I made her take it off for dinner! Here are some of the highlight from our little photo shoot.

Christmas Tree
Here it is! We had fun picking out our tree Wednesday night, and Julia and I decorated it yesterday. She did really well! Mostly, she played with the little patchwork balls while I decorated, but she did place some bows and paper cranes. :)

Donald Duck Puzzle
Ok, so I may be biased when I say my child scares me sometimes with her brilliance, but I was absolutely SHOCKED this weekend at my parents' when Julia put together a Donald Duck puzzle all by herself. She watched Natalie and Lisa doing the puzzles, and she was hooked. She couldn't get enough of the puzzles (hmmm - Christmas gift ideas???).

Club 33 at Disneyland
For months, Joel and I tried to find someone with a membership to Club 33 at Disneyland to get a dinner reservation for Mom and Dad's 30th anniversary. We were not successful, but when we told them what we were trying to do for them, they mentioned a colleague in Mariposa who they suspected might be able to get us a reservation, and they were right! He had a friend with a membership, and we got a reservation for dinner Nov. 6th. Well, we've been amped up for this trip for months now, and Wednesday we all piled into the Avalanche for our big Disneyland trip. On the way to Anaheim, we stopped in Valencia for dinner at Outback Steakhouse. Mom and I had soup and salad, Dad had a steak, and Joel had a chicken salad. Poor Joel brought the Bock Disneyland curse, and came down with food poisoning in the middle of the night. He (and we) did not sleep much that night, and Joel was still unable to keep fluids down in the morning.

Julia had fun dressing up for Halloween yesterday, I think she would prefer if she could be a princess every day....

Julia Sings Sleeping Beauty
I've been trying to capture Julia singing "I Know You" from Sleeping Beauty on video, and she finally obliged me (with promise of cookie reward)! Here is my little reluctant performer.

Playground Princess
Near our house is this great park that has push-button sprinklers for the kids to play in. Julia will be very sad when it is finally too cold to go in the water, and the parks and rec. shut off the water... not only does the park have great playground equipment, tennis courts, and the water park, but it is the closest park to our house. Here are some highlights from our most recent trip!

Fall Dress by Grandma
Julia was so excited to get her newest hand-made dress from Grandma Jan! It'll be fabulous for the cool (hopefully soon!) fall weather! Note the ultra cool Oscar the Grouch New Balance tennies. :)

Soccer Baby
Goal! Julia was very excited to go get a little goal for the back yard. She wasn't too interested in kicking the ball into it, but I'm sure the idea will grow on her... :)

The Very Hungry Caterpillar - presented by JULIA
Today Julia decided that she would read ME her book instead of the other way around! Boy was I shocked to hear that she had practically memorized the whole book - some parts are not captured on the camera, but here is an excerpt:
The Very Hungry Caterpillar
He ate a nice green leaf, and after that he feel much better!
The next day was Sunday again, caterpillar ate 3 plums, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5! The next day was Sunday again and the caterpillar eat these 5 oranges - DON'T TALK ABOUT! (an aside to Mommy - ie - BE QUIET MOMMY!)
Now he wasn’t hungry any more, and he wasn’t a little caterpillar anymore - he’s a big FAT caterpillar! He built a small house around himself, stay inside for more 2 weeks and he is beautiful butterfly!

The Strawberry Shake
One of the gifts Julia received was a Strawberry Shortcake video and "dance mat." The video has two cartoons of Strawberry Shortcake, then a little dance video that uses the little dance mat. Julia is in love with doing the "Strawberry Shake." It is hilarious to watch her - it is like toddler Dance Dance Revolution...

Julia's 2nd Birthday Party
Julia is turning TWO!!! I can't believe it - although, to talk to her, you'd think she was turning three. She is such a delight - I just can't get enough of her. We had a wonderful party at John's Incredible Pizza. I wasn't so sure at first about having it there, but it was such a relief not to worry about whose house to have it in (because ours is too small to keep everyone inside, and it is WAY too hot to ask them to go outside in August...), food for everyone, cleaning up afterward, etc. The "party hostesses" took care of everything. They even came and made balloon animals for the kids, and would have played games with them except the kids present were too young for musical chairs, etc. After eating our fill of the pizza buffet, singing the birthday song, eating cake (yummy ice cream cake from Coldstone Creamery), and opening a mound of beautiful gifts, we had fun playing the arcade games and riding the bumper cars! Julia had a great time which was most important, and she has been delighting over all her fantastic gifts. She is set for Princess goods forever I believe! Our good friend Carole was so helpful and took many great pictures during the party for me so I was able to enjoy Julia at the party and not worry about capturing the event on camera. Here are some of the highlights.
